Do your internship in Medellín with MIEO
We run the events and the trips for international students in Colombia. We’re looking for two interns, for 4 to 6 months.
MIEO Colombia in 30 seconds
Founded by two French students after their own exchange semester, MIEO (Medellin International Exchange Organisation) runs the events and the trips for international students in Medellín. Parties and meetups several times a week, group trips across Colombia — Guatapé, Barranquilla, the Pacific coast, the Amazon, Isla Fuerte — and a membership card, the MIEO Pass, that unlocks perks with our local partners.
The internal team is small: Oscar, the co-founder, and Vicky, the current president, who supervises the interns day to day. We take two or three interns at a time, never more. You won’t be the sixth intern at a big company: you’ll own your own work, and your decisions will show.
~500 students per semester
2 to 4 events per week
4 flagship trips per semester
Two complementary roles
You work as a pair: you complement each other, and you cover for each other day to day.
Advanced Spanish required
🤝 Partnerships & Events
You’re the person who keeps MIEO running on the Colombian side: the venues, the partners, the logistics on the ground.
Growing the partner network
You find and approach the clubs, bars, restaurants, shops and services in Medellín that could offer perks to MIEO Pass holders. You book the meetings, prepare the pitch, and follow up. Negotiating and signing stay with Oscar and Vicky — your job is to open the doors and keep them open.
Running the events
Several events a week in high season. You scout the venues, coordinate with the partners, handle the logistics, and you’re there on the night. You’re also in touch with the ambassadors, the student volunteers who represent us inside their universities.
Trip logistics
You help prepare the group trips: coordinating with local providers, transport, accommodation, schedules. And you travel with the group as the logistics lead.
What we’re looking for
- Advanced Spanish, comfortable on the phone and in meetings with Colombian counterparts
- People skills: you’re not afraid to start a conversation with someone you don’t know
- Discipline in your follow-up — a partner you chase three weeks too late is a partner you’ve lost
- Real autonomy: in a team of two, nobody is going to tell you what to do every morning
Intermediate Spanish
💬 Communication & International community
You’re MIEO’s voice with the students, and the link to the universities that send them to us.
Weekly newsletter
You write and send the newsletter every week: the events coming up, the trips open for sign-ups, the new partners.
Social media and community
You create and schedule content for our social media (Instagram and TikTok) and you keep an eye on the automated chatbots. You’re the person who understands best what the students actually want.
University relations
You keep up the relationship with the foreign universities that send their students to Medellín: contact with the international offices, introducing MIEO to each new cohort, tracking the arrivals every semester.
MIEO Pass member follow-up
You keep track of the active members and collect their feedback on the perks and the events.
What we’re looking for
- Intermediate Spanish as a minimum
- A sense of organisation: the posts have to go out on time, whatever else is happening
- Responsiveness: in a student community, an answer tomorrow is an answer too late
- A genuine interest in the community. We talk to students, not to customers
Common to both roles
Whichever role you take, you also help recruit the interns who come after you: you contact your own school and your own network, you pass the offer along, you run the first conversations. Nobody knows better than you what the job actually looks like.
What you get out of it
🎉 Free entry to every MIEO event
For the whole length of your internship.
🚍 Discounts on all our trips
Guatapé, Barranquilla, the Pacific coast, the Amazon, Isla Fuerte.
✈️ One trip on us
As the logistics lead.
🎟️ MIEO Pass perks with our partners
Bars, restaurants and shops across Medellín.
🌍 A genuinely international experience
You work every day with students from all over the world, not inside an expat bubble.
🔑 Responsibility from day one
A team of two or three interns at most, and no busywork.
We’re a small outfit, things move fast, and some weeks are heavy. In exchange, you won’t spend six months building spreadsheets nobody will read.

Common questions about interning in Medellín
Do I need to speak Spanish for the Communication role?
Advanced Spanish is ideal, but an intermediate level is enough for the Communication role. The other intern can help you with translating posts into Spanish.
Does MIEO provide accommodation?
MIEO doesn’t own any apartments, but we help you find somewhere to live through our partners.
What monthly budget should I plan for?
We recommend a budget of €700 to €1,200 a month to live comfortably in Medellín.
Is Medellín safe?
Its violent past still colours its reputation, but Medellín is known today for its energy and its social transformation, which earned it the title of most innovative city in the world in 2013, according to the Wall Street Journal. Follow good practice, use common sense, and you have nothing to worry about.
How many hours a week?
We adapt to each university’s requirements (usually 35 hours a week).

Five minutes. We read every one.
